CUPERTINO, Calif. - April 12, 2010 - Verigy (NASDAQ: VRGY), a premier semiconductor test company, has shipped multiple
V93000 Port Scale RF systems to a repeat customer for testing radio-frequency system-on-a-chip (RF-SOC) semiconductors used in ultra-low-cost wireless communication handsets.
The global market for ultra-low-cost handsets is an estimated 1.6 billion people, mostly in emerging countries such as China and India, who have not yet purchased cellular handsets. Demand is expected to double in size to over 200 million units per year between 2009 and 2013, according to market research firm iSuppli.
"This customer currently has several V93000 Port Scale RF test systems being used to test RF-SOC devices in production," said Pascal Ronde, vice president of worldwide sales, service and support at Verigy. "The V93000 systems are testing these devices on multiple levels without trade-offs for speed, accuracy or functionality. The flexible architecture of the platform enables users to increase their manufacturing throughput by testing not only radio receivers, but also other critical parts."
RF devices are key components in cell phones, global positioning systems (GPS), tuners, and many other applications. Demand for faster processing speeds and smaller form factors is driving the semiconductor industry to integrate more RF communication functions onto a single chip that supports multiple communication protocols, including GSM/CDMA, CDMA2000, EDGE and EDVO. Reliable mass production of these chips requires advanced IC testing capabilities.
Verigy’s V93000 Port Scale RF system can test up to 48 ports with true quad-site and high multi-site parallel efficiency at a minimal cost of test. Its cost-effective applications range from high-throughput testing of low-integration RF transceivers up to advanced devices containing integrated RF mixed signal, digital, power management and embedded or stacked memory.
